Cylinder Head Disassembly and Cleaning
TJ
Your engine block will be cleaned in our heated wash tank to remove oil and debris. The gasket mating surfaces are then buffed and the dowel pins are removed to have the block inspected. The liners and main caps are also removed at this time.
Magnaflux Crack Detection
CM
The Cylinder Heads are electrically charged to create a magnetic field in which a chemical with charged particles is added. Under ultraviolet light you can see cracks that were otherwise undetectable by the naked eye,
Component Inspection
EC / CM
The various components of the cylinder head are checked and tested. The valve springs are checked for compression and wear. The Valves are checked for straightness and wear. The valve guides and seats are checked for wear. The head is checked in thickness and straightness. If the head can be surfaced and remain within manufacturer's specifications, then it passes to the estimate phase. If not, a rebuilt or new cylinder head is offered instead. All parts for the head are either OEM, SBI or IPD.
Valve Grinding
EC
Valves that have some wear, but are within manufacturer's specifications, can be ground to create a new, even mating surface with the valve seat. We machine both the used valves, when acceptable, and the valve seat. This is done to maintain as close a seal as possible, which we check with a vacuum tester after machining each seat. We also make sure the valve recession is within the tolerance set forth by the manufacturer's guidelines.
Injection Tube Installation
EC
Diesel engine cylinder heads have tubes that hold the injector. The tubes are usually copper, but can also come in stainless steel. When a cylinder head is subject to higher than normal temperatures the seal between the tube and the cylinder head could leak and allow water to get into the piston chamber or worse. Our trained, experienced machinist remove the old tubes and install new ones when necessary.
