Crankshafts and Camshafts are cleaned in the tank in preparation for measuring and machining.

Many times crankshafts have stress or heat cracks that show up on the magnaflux machine testing like a beacon.  These cranks to the naked eye would look ok to reuse.

We use precise indicators to measure the different characteristics of the crankshafts and camshafts.  We check the runoff and make sure they are within tolerances of the manufacturer.  The radius' of the crankshaft are especially important, as a damaged radius could lead to the cracking of the crankshaft.

Most of the time, when the damage to the cam or crank is not severe, the component could be salvaged by polishing to keep it as close as possible to the original size the manufacturer calls for.  In other cases, the Crankshaft may need to be ground in order to even out gouges or repair the radius.  When that happens our AMC Crankshaft Grinding Machine and experience personnel
